A merry Monday morning in the fall of Mendoza, is the perfect setting for having an outdoor tasting on the latest of Alpamanta.

On a brief walk of around 20 minutes we reviewed the organic-biodynamic vineyard, and visited the basement where the magic happens. Horns, herbs and a variety of tools are the complex combination that create wines of this caliber .

Starting in 2006, the project has been blessed by the nature of Mendoza, along with animals, insects and the crew behind it. All the wines are certified organic-byodinamic and to be honest; they do taste very sharp.

With 35 hectares planted at 22 miles south of the city of Mendoza, the property produces single vineyard wines.

Enologist Giuseppe Franceschini is the brain that carefully crafts these gems; consisting mainly of malbec, cabernet, syrah, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc.

Their portfolio has four lines with varietals: Natal, Estate, their excitable and our favorite-un-available Breva, and Terroir. Prices are ascending in that order respectively, from US$12 to US$30.

These wine are exported mainly to USA and Europe and Argentina takes 20% of the share.

Something to highlight is the exceptional quality, on the line of Breva. To point out a wine that caught our attention, was an unfiltered sauvignon blanc (bad news, only 1000 to 3000 bottles every year, and sold out every year) with 14.1 alcohol by volume, notes of citrus fruits, lemon peel, with peach and honey shining on secondary. Acid levels are medium plus, color is limocello-like, medium to full body on the mouth, perfectly balanced and a long finish.
It should score at 94 points on any magazine easily. Well that's F&W score actually.

To summarize the style of Alpamanta Wines: innovation, some chardonnay Califonia style (around the 2010 fashion: butter 90%), exciting, sharp, balance, integrity and personal charm.

We thank the Alpamanta group for the amazing food and invite!
