The Joy of togetherness

After a day of shopping at Village of Merrick Park to get the latest trends on beauty and fashion; Fashion & Wine Magazine gets a pause for sushi and mediterranean appetizers at SAWA Restaurant & Lounge (Sawa means “togetherness” in Arabic).
On the Photo: Salmon tartar and Kami-Su roll.
Under the culinary direction of Chef Andres Revoredo who’s magic touch takes us from Oriental to Lebanese culinary experience; we can’t do more than admire the passion and team work to bring the best of both worlds. With an impressive career from Caracas to the Hamptons and Palma de Mallorca; Chef Revoredo has been covering all. Assisting in the kitchen Yeny of Lebanese origins leads the Mediterranean line and Igbal from Indonesia takes care of the sushi bar.
SAWA is located on a beautiful outdoor dining section at the main Plaza of the Village; flanked by George Merrick’s iron sculpture on a gondola to remind us of the visionary founder of Coral Gable’s, the City Beautiful. An indoor cozy bar and dining room are also an option for those who want to enjoy a more intimate dinner.
Service is friendly and knowledgeable; you may be able to see the same staff members working there for years and don't be surprised if they will most likely remember your name when you come back. Enjoy happy hours from 5 to 7 pm with specials on cocktails, wine by the glass, tapas and sushi. On Fridays and Saturdays SAWA offers 2 Belly dancing shows; the first at 8 pm and second at 10 pm. Now and until the end of September you can also experience the Miami Spice Menu 3 course Dinner for $39 and a 3 course Lunch for $23.
Highly recommended is the Brunch from 11 am to 4 pm featuring Belgian waffles, eggs Benedict, Norwegian smoked salmon bagels and a Champagne Bar; building your own mimosa, bellini or fresh fruit bubbles. What to choose when at SAWA? the large menu gives you so many possibilities and it all depends on what you are in the mood for. I suggest to try a different cuisine every time you come in or share different dishes. If you feel like sushi, probably one of the signature dishes to start with could be the Merrick Park roll that includes lobster tempura, eel sauce, sunomono salad, cream cheese and masago. The Balinese roll; one of my favorites includes avocado, masago, mango, ikura, wasabi, spicy mayo, eel and cream cheese.
If you are feeling the vibes for Mediterranean you can’t go wrong with the Lebanese sampler that includes falafel, kibbe, grape leaves, kefta potato sliders, tahini and tzatziki. All homemade daily by expert hands. Sweet tooth? try the different mousse options; Belgian chocolate or strawberries and cream. Outstanding service, so many options to choose from a menu that will please the most exigent palates in search for the exotic, great atmosphere al fresco dining and the joy of togetherness; this is SAWA; worth the experience while at the Village of Merrick Park.
